This book won't propel you from 0 to 36 overnight, but it will help you approach the ACT with some degree of confidence and comfort -- that you know what to expect and you have taken appropriate steps to prepare. This book covers all the bases in terms of explaining how the ACT is structured, what took look out for, how to prepare, and how to do your best on test day. It includes a diagnostic test and four full-length practice tests, with scoring guides and explanations of the answers -- the authors promise that the explanations are expanded in this version of the book.Most of the book -- including all of the practice tests -- is printed on newsprint, but there are a few introductory pages at the beginning of the book printed on higher quality glossy paper, encouraging you to come back and review them from time to time. They include an overview on how to use the book, how to get the most out of the practice tests, and how to prepare -- even outlining a one-to-two day emergency plan for last minute preparation (not recommended). The book provides general test-taking strategies that will help you avoid costly mistakes (like filling in the wrong bubbles on the answer sheet). It provides specific strategies for the specific tests -- reading, science, writing, math. The book is then separated into five parts - what is the ACT and how to register for it, a diagnostic assessment, test taking strategies and review (this is the largest section, broken down by topic), practice tests, and some helpful appendixes.I really like the presentation of the material in this book. It is spread out on the pages so you don't have all this daunting margin to margin text to cover. It makes each page seem like a small step and it's easy to get through. The answers to the practice test questions have short explanations so you can reason why the correct answer is best. By working through and reviewing this book in the weeks leading up to the test, I would think you'd have your best chance at a good score.
McGraw-Hill ACT 2019 EditionWe have been using McGraw-Hill for helping the kids study up and practice for the ACT for years now.Each year we get the latest version so they can be the most prepared as possible.We like that this one has answers with explanations to go with so they can see what they are needing to work on.Shows areas of strength and weakness as you go. Has diagnostic testing so they can see what to work on to be better prepared. I like that this book with the tests and different sections really helps my kid to improve where they need and it also shows them what they are already strong in and don't need to brush up on as much as other sections.Overall we have been very pleased with the McGraw-Hill ACT books.
I got this ACT exam prep book to help my last child, who is in high school, prepare to take the ACT exam over the next couple of years. We've had good experience overall with these exam prep books. Our other children have all gotten ACT scores that garnered college scholarship money both from the school of their choice and through Florida's Bright Futures scholarship program.While it's too early yet to tell whether my son will get the same kind of Florida Bright Future scholarship award like his older siblings, I'm confident that this exam prep book will do the job like the earlier versions did.
This is an excellent way to study for an upcoming ACT exam. The questions are presented in the same manner as on the actual ACT which helps students be more comfortable when taking their test. As I helped my niece study for her ACT test this spring, I was very pleased at how easy it was to understand instructions and move from one section to another. The practice tests help pinpoint areas where more study is needed. This book is a great option to help prepare your child to take the ACT when can't or don't want to spend hundreds of dollars on a study program.
As a teacher of ACT prep class in the past, I gave most of my materials to another teacher who was taking over the program. Since I still teach and do some prep in my regular courses, I wanted to update my materials. In full disclosure, I already really loved McGraw-Hill's short videos to help students understand the thinking behind certain questions, so I wanted to see what their prep book would look like. This book is all I wanted and expected it to be--there are great suggestions, a well-organized text, and nice full-length tests that students can take. This is a great prep book!
This book looks like a great resource for my high school student. It covers test strategy, has lots of sample questions, has multiple full-length practice tests, etc. It also has good explanations for all of the answers, so you can see what you did wrong. If a student is willing to sit down and work through this book on their own, it should be just as helpful as an ACT prep course... for a lot less money.
There are plenty of practice questions with fully explained answers. This book has information on scoring, and has hundreds of Math practice questions. There is a test to measure your improvement.
