Puerto Rican politics, culture and history are interwoven with the narration of this family saga. The information about Puerto Rico is often very interesting; but many times it is overdone and is imposed on the story line, overwhelming it. The characters are engaging but not fascinating. So many are introduced that it gets confusing who is who and what is the point of it all. Also, my Kindle edition had an error in it. About 1/4th of the way into the book and for several chapters, every letter "i", when accented and followed by the letter "a", became an accented "e" so don't buy the Kindle edition unless you can be assured they have fixed this glitch.
Captivating characters and plot. The language does the job of telling the story and doesn't call attention to itself.
Love this writer. Very creative!
A very interesting book that takes you into a world of history (real and fiction). Rosario Ferre is an amazing writer, this is why I have read many of her books.
